On the 24th November the 1500th patient to receive treatment since the opening of the centre was treated by a team led by Mr Matthias Radatz.
The centre is now one of only seven Gamma Knife centres in the UK delivering the treatment which can offer significant advantages for patients. After establishing itself as an important centre delivering stereotactic radiosurgery it provides a key resource to increasing access to NHS patients to this advanced technology.
In welcoming reaching this landmark, Lynne Brooks Director of The Thornbury Radiosurgery Centre Ltd, a partner in the centre said “We are very proud of the Thornbury Gamma Knife Centre and the advanced treatment it is providing to patients locally and nationally. It was the fourth such centre to be established in the UK and is a true centre of excellence providing exceptional patient care. Access to this technology needs to increase in the UK to meet levels seen internationally and Thornbury provides a key resource for this”.
